Job Title: House Manager (2 openings available)
Pay: $45,000 to $50,000
FLSA Status: Full-time with benefits package (health, dental, vision, FSA after 60 days), 80
hours of PTO for the first year with paid company holidays & additional set two paid weeks off
per year). Part-time position available (up to 24 hours, no benefits).
Schedule: Full-time, 2pm to 10pm
Travel: Limited local travel required

Summary: Youth Empowerment for Advancement Hangout (YEAH) is a Black-led, community-
based non-profit supporting teens and young adults in West and Southwest Philadelphia ages 15 to 24 who are impacted by violence. YEAH creates safe and authentic hangout spaces by providing
culturally relevant engagement and implementing teen led interventions to address the root causes
of violence. Utilizing teen action through peer led mediation and conflict resolution, community
engagement, and economic opportunities, YEAH interrupts the cycle of youth community
violence. YEAH acknowledges teens and young adults as the experts of their own lives and
prioritizes pushing back against oppressive systems and addressing structural barriers that often
lead to violence.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: The house manager will be a presence within the YEAH
Philly hangout spaces and interact with teens and young adults who come to our space daily. The
house manager will have the responsibility of preparing dinner three times per week, playing
games or doing activities with young people, assisting with the peer mediation process, safety
checks in the space, restocking supplies, laundry of towels and blankets, and organizing the
building. This position is expected to be interactive with young people while having the ability
and confidence to intervene when something is wrong or when young people need assistance with
something around the space. The overall goal of this position is to provide adult love and support
at our space where young people can be themselves and be comfortable enough with this person to
actively engage and ask for help when needed.

Job Requirements: Valid PA driver’s license and ability to drive personal car and company car
are required. Philadelphia resident or residency within 3 months required. High school diploma or
GED required. Candidates should have superb interpersonal skills and abilities interacting and
engaging actively with teens and young adults who identify as Black. Candidates must have
previous experience as a house manager or within residential settings; must know how to take
initiative, be action oriented, understand how to be a loving authority presence with young people, have some life and professional experience with providing past community and wrap around
support services related to advocacy, social work, or human services; a strong interest in social
justice and the ability to grasp concepts around violence, race, and systems; excellent verbal and
written communication skills; and good organizational skills. Candidates who identify racially or
ethnically as Black or Brown and have been personally impacted by the criminal justice system or
violence (directly or indirectly) are strongly encouraged to apply.

Primary Responsibilities:
● Maintain a strong and warm presence within hangout spaces for teens and young adults.
● Have young people sign in when they come into the space.
● Moving around each floor of the space at least each hour in terms of checking the space.
● Assist young people with planning health and wellness appointments and goals.
● Clean and tidy spaces each day as needed (trash emptied, sweeping, kitchen dishes etc.).
● Assist with peer mediations within the space as necessary.
● Intervene when it comes to needed crisis management or helping teens and young adults
manage emotions.
● Actively engage with teens and young adults (games, arts & crafts, activities etc.)
● Model life skills and independent living for teens and young adults on a day-to-day basis
(grocery store errands, finances, etc.)
● Maintain a daily log of events for organizational leadership.

Additional Responsibilities:
● Assisting community members who walk in & need assistance with things like vital documents.
● Assisting group facilitators as needed.
● Assist with organizing trips or activities.
● Other duties as assigned.
